Friday’s Wall

The Quit thing. This week has proven to be one of those little mini trials. Busy, frustrating, and not going smoothly.

I want to quit. Give up writing. Shut down the computer, toss all the printed papers. Stop reading, writing, and studying.

Maybe I need a short break. Nothing permanent, just a moment to recharge. Maybe I need to push ahead and not take a break. It could also be because the story isn’t staying on track. There are many different reason why writing feels like it does.

After over ten year, I realize quitting is not the answer. This is just a sign that something isn’t quite right. Instead, I need to find the problem, define it, examine it and figure out the options to resolve the problem.

It took me a while to get to this place and figure out the what this means.

This particular situation is that it is the last half of the story. I want to make sure it is staying on track. Do I know what it means, what am I putting into it that works, and what am I putting that isn’t? Maybe it is taking a break today and thinking about whether or not the scenes I am currently putting editing are the ones that need to stay. What scenes that I didn’t know were missing are missing?

This is a moment to acknowledge the growth in writing that has come about in my writing. Whew! I didn’t think I was going to get here. I don’t have to rush or push. Just take it one step at a time, and stay open to pivots and consider possibilities. That is usually how I find the next right scene.
