Monday

Well, good Monday afternoon to you!

My mind is blank today. Nothing sharp and witty is coming forth. Been trying to get today and this weeks tasks moving along. We are coming up on the holidays so fast now. Shopping this week and prepping next.

Meanwhile I am also still working on a revision and finishing a first draft for the next picture book. While one might think it’s close to being completed, it isn’t. Not ready to call it a completed draft yet. This week I have to make a firm decision on how many pages it will have. Definitely by Thanksgiving, that is my deadline for that decision.

If it is pushed off, there better be a really good reason. And a plan. Yes, a plan to catch up. (That means as long as the decision is made by the first of December, I’m good.) December should start with a list of pages, the description of the action on the pages, and any text.

This means the story has to be completed by then as well. Not sure when the last time it was looked at, but what was there was solid. It is more a question of whether or not there are enough pages. There is no rule, but the generally accepted page count for picture books is an average of 32 pages.

There aren’t quite thirty-two pages. This means either there must be more pages created. Anything less means these will have to be handmade books, because print on demand and printers aren’t as likely to publish shorter books. That will start a whole other topic to research.

This is why my mind is not focusing on my blog writing today. Time for me to do some doodling and see what my imagination can come up with. Have a nice Monday evening.
