Radio Taiso

If you have ever been to Japan, like all places there are unique nuances of culture. One that caught my eye was a short segment caught on NHK television, something called Radio Taiso.

Harvard Health website states that this exercise routine started in the U.S. The website, How To Japan, credits the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for originating the routine. During the 1920s a version of it caught on in Japan and was incorporated into their culture.

The short routine ranging from three to ten minutes of thirteen movements set to music. Gentle stretching and heart pumping action invigorates. A recent resurgence since covid because it can be done in a small space at home. Traditionally in Japan many communities hold early morning sessions outside, many attendees receive stickers and stamps to place on attendance sheets.

As a writer, my own experience with this form of exercise has proven it to be a nice pick me. As one always should consult a physician before starting any exercise program, and advise for modifying the movements to your own physical status. A quick YouTube search will show you a multitude of options to view about it. Check it out.
