Miss Home Ec
No, not Miss Home Ec. More like missing Home Ec.
When I took this class there were many different types of people in the class. We represented a cross section of interests, personalities and grades. I had a great time. Our teachers taught us how to cook, sew and do laundry. We learned how to take care of our someday homes and adult selves.
At the holidays cookies and goodies were made to share with one another. Throughout the year we shared our successes and our mistakes. My own biggest mistake was not remembering to put oregano in the pizza sauce, instead dumping it on top. It still brings a smile to me, remembering how awful it was. My pride was hurt. But the experience has served me well for when unplanned things happen, and they do.
It is a well loved class all these years later. Skills, memories and all the experiences that have been built upon those things learned in that class. I hope the young high school students today have a course that provides the same for them now. Maybe home economics is no longer necessary, with all that is available online.
