Voice

Borrowing from the MasterClass website for the definition.

“The rhetorical mixture of vocabulary, tone, point of view, and syntax that makes phrases, sentences, and paragraphs flow in a particular manner.“

This is just a small part of an article. And no, I am not a subscriber/member, I liked the way the site worded their definition of literature voice.

Myself, I have had, lost my voice and regained it. Something that may or may not be typical. Life and our own personal perspective can affect a writer’s voice. It certainly has mine from time to time. So far, I have found it has deepened my voice, broadened it.

My writing study has been mostly independent and collegiate. It also continues, because in my experience writing changes as we change. Writing can be personal or for the masses. Regardless of your chosen audience, it is a good thing.

You don’t have to study writing, but you can review, from a distance your own writing. Something that over the years, has beneficial to me,  personally and in writing fiction. Before sitting down to work on a fiction project it helps clear my mind and improved my story focus. As this habit has become more routine, it seems to have sped along completing drafts and helped find the flow and progression from beginning to end.

Give it a try.
